New patients, pricing, and what to expect
If you are considering psychiatric care, you should not have to hunt through multiple pages to understand the basics. This page is designed to answer the questions new patients usually ask first: how do I get started, how much does it cost, and what happens next?
We are a self-pay practice
Chesapeake Bay Psychiatry is self-pay only. We do not bill insurance directly and we do not accept Medicare or Medicaid. If you have a PPO or POS plan with out-of-network benefits, we can provide a superbill for possible reimbursement.

How scheduling works
Step 1
Request an appointment and tell us who needs care, your location, and whether you are seeking telehealth or in-person care.
Step 2
Complete the intake paperwork and keep a valid card on file to secure your appointment.
Step 3
Attend your initial evaluation and review your treatment options and recommended next steps.
Payment timing
Initial evaluations are paid at the time of booking. Follow-up appointment fees are processed at 10:00 AM Eastern the business day before the appointment. If the payment fails, the patient is contacted and asked to resolve it. If payment is not resolved by 3:00 PM, the appointment may be cancelled and a late cancel fee may apply.
Rescheduling and cancellations
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please notify the office by 10:00 AM Eastern the business day before your appointment. This allows us time to offer the spot to another patient and keep the schedule fair.
Appointment format
Telehealth is available for patients physically located in Virginia at the time of the appointment. Limited in-person appointments are available in Chesapeake based on provider availability. Patients traveling from Northeast North Carolina may request limited in-person appointments in Chesapeake. We do not provide telehealth visits when a patient is physically located in North Carolina.
A note for anxious first-time patients
You do not need perfect words before your first appointment. You do not need to arrive with every answer. You just need a place to start.
